Julie Ann Art began in 2008, while Julie was sitting on the floor in her bedroom. She wants to add that this bedroom of hers was located in her mom’s house. So yes, this business started when Julie was 24 years old, living with her mom, in Michigan. Having graduated college three years prior, she found herself doing repetitive, monotonous work at a full-time photography job. She had heard about Etsy through a friend and opened a shop on a whim.
There was no immediate, big dream of one day owning her own business. She was just looking for something fun, a hobby. But perhaps her sub-conscious knew better.
It was about a year into the start of JAA that Julie made the move to California (sorry Mom). She landed another full-time photography gig and continued to work on JAA after hours. However as years passed, she realized her once little hobby had grown into a demanding business. Working two jobs was getting to be too much, so after days, weeks, months of contemplating, she took the leap of faith to pursue Julie Ann Art full-time in 2012.
Today, Julie Ann Art products are sold internationally, and can be found in various stores across the country. All of their designs feature hand-written illustrations and lettering. Cards are professionally printed locally on recycled paper and include a recycled kraft envelope. Every order is processed and packaged in Julie’s home studio, likely in the company of her studio pup, Penny.
On most days you’ll find Julie working on growing Julie Ann Art, but on days off, she won’t say no to a beach day with her husband, mojito (or Bloody Mary, or mimosa) in hand.
